The Mekong River Delta is the southern region of Vietnam, also known as the southern delta region or shortened way of the people Vietnam is Western Region. According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam in 2011, the total area of the provinces in the Mekong Delta is 40548.2 km² and the total population of the provinces in the region is 17.3309 million people. The Mekong River Delta is formed by the alluvial sediments accreted over centuries of sea level change; and is located important adjacent to Southeast region, north is Cambodia, to the southwest is the Gulf of Thailand and southeast is the Eastern Sea.
The population living in the Mekong River Delta mainly is based on rivers, the two most important rivers are Tien Giang and Hau Giang, many villages can only be come by boats through the rivers system and interlaced canals. The Mekong Delta is also the cradle of the art of “Mekong Delta traditional music†and has since grown into a reformed theater arts with many famous composers such as Tran Huu Trang, Ha Trieu Phuong Hoa, artists as Cao Van Lau, Nam Chau and many famous actors like Phung Ha, Thanh Nga, Ut Tra On, Thanh Duoc, Ut Bach Lan, Phuong Lien... “Mekong Delta traditional music†is a line of traditional music of Vietnam was formed and developed from the late 19th century, derives from the music festival, the Hue court music and folklore. “Mekong Delta traditional music†is the folk art forms typical of the Southern of Vietnam and has been recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in the meeting dated May 12, 2013 of Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Protection intangible th 8 UNESCO took place in the city of Baku, Azerbaijan Republic.
