Phu Quoc Island District is the largest island in Vietnam. Phu Quoc Island also known as Pearl Island, the largest island of Vietnam, is also the largest island of the 22 islands in this population, located in the Gulf of Thailand. Phu Quoc Island and other islands formed under Phu Quoc Island, Kien Giang Province. The entire island district has a total area of 589.23 km ² (according to Stats land in 2005), approximately the size of Singapore 1960 before leveling polders. Duong Dong Town, located in the northwest, is the capital of the island. Phu Quoc is located 120 km from Rach Gia and Ha Tien town by 45 km. In 2006, Biosphere Reserve and the coastal island district of Kien Giang including this region is recognized as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.
