Dien Bien Phu is the provincial capital city of Dien Bien province in northwest Vietnam, bordering south east of Dien Bien Dong district, bordering the left side of Dien Bien district. Currently Dien Bien Phu City have includes 7 wards as: Muong Thanh, Tan Thanh, Thanh Binh, Noong Bua, Him Lam, Nam Thanh, Thanh Truong and 2 commune are: Thanh Minh, Ta Leng. Dien Bien Phu became the city since October 2003 and is a grade 3. Population of historic Dien Bien Phu was officially ranked national historic April 28, 1962. Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument was built on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the victory of Dien Bien Phu (2004). Dien Bien City is known for the Battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, between Viet Minh troops (by General Vo Nguyen Giap commander) and French troops ( by General Christian de Castries commander). The Battle of Dien Bien Phu is mentioned as one of the greatest victories in Southeast Asia against by Western powers.
