Hoi An is an ancient town situated on the Thu Bon River Basin, the coastal plain of Quang Nam Province, Vietnam, Da Nang City and about 30 km to the south. Due to geographical factors and favorable climate, Hoi An was once a bustling international trading port, the meeting place of the merchant ships of Japan, China and the West during the 17th and 18th centuries. Prior to this time, this place also had traces of Cham commercial port or mentioned along the Silk Road on the sea. Hoi An unspoilt lucky in two avoidable wars and the massive urbanization late 20th century Beginning in the 1980s, the value of architecture and culture of the ancient town of Hoi An is gradually scholarly attention and visitors, making it one of the attractive tourist destinations of Vietnam. With outstanding value, at the 23rd session of late 1999 (December 4, 1999), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization United Nations (UNESCO) has recognized Hoi An as a "World Cultural Heritage", based on two criteria:
