Lao Cai is a border city north, the capital of the province of Lao Cai. The city was founded in 2004 on the basis of two towns merged Lao Cai and Cam Duong. Lao Cai city have Lao Cai International Border Gate, where the trade is important in northern Vietnam and southern China. Lao Cai is the first site in the country, Lao Cai city is an important gateway market opening Vietnam to the south west province of China, and the inland province in China. Lao Cai City have Nam Thi River runs north around the province, and is a natural boundary with China. Nam Thi River confluence with the Red River at the border between Lao Cai and China. Lao Cai City is also the terminus of the railway line Hanoi - Lao Cai, from here it is possible to transfer to China by road or by rail even with the transnational train.
