Tan Hiep District is a gateway district of Kien Giang province, on the route from Ho Chi Minh City to Kien Giang. The district has a population of 151,000 (according to 2005 statistics) and area of 416.5 km². Tan Hiep A is a commune in Tan Hiep district, including the hamlets Canal 2A, Canal 3A , Canal 4A and Canal 5A with the majority of people follow Christianity.
